Kimu the Bunny Dragon

Kimu the Bunny Dragon

Here's my process sheet for this here animal character. He's supposedly a bunny/dragon who enjoys eating black diamond carrots. I didn't create him nor did I ask any questions. I just thought it'd be fun to draw. :)

Here's how the pencil drawing started:

Simple pencils just to create a look and feel for the character and the object of his desire (the carrot). The background is messy but you should be glad that I actually thought about that stuff. Let's move on to the coloring shall we?

From the pencil drawing, I start to block out color fields and smudgy shading seen here:

Rather simple. Everything is a mess but it's getting somewhere. I used the "lock transparency" tool in this again so that when I shade, I wouldn't go outside the bounds of the blocks of color I set for myself. It's a useful tool and not as constricting as I thought it would have been.

To shade, I lay out my colors first and then I use the smudge tool to put it all together. My method for laying out color is most apparent with the ground and the carrot. I try to put in as many colors as possible into each object, hence the yellow on the ground and the hint of green on the carrot. Doing that actually makes objects feel more rounded and lifelike.

Here's the final:

Tada! Ain't life grand? Sigh. my hard drive crashed. X_x

Katamari <3

It's time for another edition of my art process!!!!

Let's start off with the super crappy sketch, shall we? I drew this on the train one day (because I'm sad) but it looked kind of decent so I decided that one day I'd color it in. It must have laid in my notebook for at least 2-3 months before I found it again. And o man! Note the yellow paper. Why is my paper always so YELLOW.

And so it begins. I wanted to do something different with the coloring so I decided not to outline this drawing before I started coloring. I used the preserve transparency tool that I heard people talk about online (and I had no idea what it was) and it was actually really easy and convenient for the purpose of coloring. whee! Try it if you ever have the chance...

But as you'll see, I changed a lot of elements in this... The king is no longer there and all this sushi related crap started appearing. That's b/c I thought that the Prince in the sketch was actually wearing a chef's hat so I thought to myself, "wouldn't it be cool if he were rolling up sushi?!?".... Then my mind wandered and I came up with the below. Poor King... he got lost in my thoughts...

I forgot to screenshot this, so please bear with the partially colored pic. Only the prince is hard core colored though!

I thought this pic was looking pretty bland at this point so I did a lot of editing and split second decisions to make this final version below.

I was happy with this pic at the end of the day. It's not the smartest picture in the world and it doesn't say anything, but Katamari Damacy is cool anyway. ^__^

2007 <3

A ha! It's a new year so it's time to start posting some drawing memories.

Here is something that I've been working on. It came about while I was listening to music one day (I think it was Queens of the Stoneage- Mosquito Song) and I was wallowing in my own self pity. It was just a random sketch but the idea kind of created itself.

Here is a pic as it's being inked. I actually scanned it in initially because I thought I could ink it better in photoshop. But it actually looked the same so I just inked the rest of it and scanned it in again...The paper's pretty yellow isn't it? :D

So then I actually scanned in the completed image and cleaned it up.

And after hours of coloring, it looks like this.

Tada! more to come soon...

Projects

I decided to make this blog to complain a lot.

I've also made it to post the projects I've been working on for myself and for other people. Blogging is a good way to keep me in line and organized. Knowing me, I'll probably stop posting after 2 months or submissions, but hey, we all need something to do.
